Historical context
In 1926, Daniel B. Jett was hired as a civil engineering professor and in 1933 became department head. He was the Dean of Engineering from 1938 1947. After stepping down as dean, he continued to teach until his retirement in 1956. Dean Jett was so beloved by the student body he was nicknamed ''Dad'' Jett. In our archives there are hundreds of letters of correspondence between Dean Jett and Aggie students who were serving in World War II.
