Historical context
NMSU has had a long tradition of Greek societies and Greek life beginning in 1922. In that year, there was one sorority as well as a couple of fraternities. The Greek tradition is still part of the NMSU social fabric. Edited from http://contentdm.nmsu.edu/cdm/compoundobject/collection/Yearbooks/id/8206/rec/1. The photographer is Flora Hamiel who was executive secretary to seven NMSU presidents. In 1956, the Board of Regents named the third wing of the Rhodes Garrett Hamiel Hall, a women’s dormitory, in her honor.
