''Golf became popular in Mesilla Park as early as the 1920s. As Swastika reports in 1926, Golf Looms Large As New Aggie Sport: As another sign post pointing to expansion, progress, development, and social betterment, plans have been started for a golf course in the "open spaces" back of Hadley Hall. Many students of late have become interested in this most fascinating sport, and next year it is hoped that golf will be listed among regular sports on campus with tournaments similar to those in basketball.''
