Note on verso: The Hondo Project is about 60 miles North of Carlsbad and 12 miles Southwest of Roswell, New Mexico. It is a natural basin. When openings occur in the mesa surrounding it, the government has put in earthen dams, lined with stone. The shore line is irregular, but reduced to a circle, it would be nearly nine miles in circumference. The source of supply is the Hondo River, which takes its rise in the White Mountains, 120 miles distant
